what governor romney is conveying. >> do you think president obama has not said to a group of donors, look, there are certain segments in the electorate that are not going to vote for me? why not see it as political analysis? >> i don't think that's what the president said or ever said. what he's done is govern for all of the people. the president has, you know, he's advanced policy that is are not popular with his base. he did them because he thought they were important for the future of this country. it's the leadership we need. >> let's talk about the issues, the 47% get to. the question of government dependence as you referenced, here are snapshots nationally that raised eyebrows and governor romney talked about. you talk about food stamps. 47 million americans on food stamps up from four years ago. here is a broader picture from the wall street journal over time, if you go back to the early '80s and look at the trajectory, 49% receiving some kind of government benefit. is government dependent at a place where it's out of control? >> well, david, i think where we are is too many

skills. for his part on "60 minutes," president obama defended his record, while acknowledging he's failed to deliver one of his biggest promises. >> if you ask me what's my biggest disappointment, is that we haven't change the tone in washington as much as i would have liked. >> reporter: meanwhile, as romney faced criticism he spent more time fund-raising than speaking to voters he'll pick up the pace this week on a bus tour from colorado to the crucial crucial state of ohio. while here mitt romney is also packing in several interviews with local television affiliates in key battleground states including virginia, wisconsin and florida. but when the romney campaign, natalie, begins its bus tour in ohio today, they will be met by a new attack ad. this is from the obama campaign. that new ad is the first one to use romney's comments caught on hidden camera with reports to some americans as victims and government dependents. the ad will accuse him of criticizing americans who don't pay their income taxes when he hasn't, quote, come clean about his own. natalie? >> all right. peter

hopefully he won't have to talk about that 47% anymore, but the obama campaign is perfectly happy to live in the past week and keep that going right up until the debate. you know what, jon, nine days away. >> we are counting it down, brian mooar, thank you very much. >>> new this morning, tensions are growing between china and japan over a group of disputed islands in the east china sea. china's surveillance ships briefly entered the water surrounding the disputed islands today. japanese coast guard vessels have been shadowing those ships. japan set off angry demonstrations in china when japan purchased the island from their private owners this month. over the weekend, china cancelled events to commemorate 40 years of diplomatic relations with japan in a sign of anger over the dispute. >>> on the subject of china, new this morning, the chinese company that makes the apple iphone is temporarily suspending production because of an internal riot. foxcon says it made that move after nearly 2,000 workers were involved in a fight at a campus dorm. 40 people were injured in this big-time brawl.
